My hair is extremely thick and has a slight natural wave. I straighten it with a flat iron on average once a week. I stopped coloring it awhile ago... I also don't blow dry alot, and if I do, I use cold. I try to let it air dry as much as possible, which is actually quite often. However, my hair is still SO damaged! Every end is split and I get it trimmed regularly to try to stop this. I've used a ton of different conditioners and can't find anything to help! Also, is there a type of shampoo/conditioner I can use that will make my hair smoother and seem a little bit thinner, maybe to relax it a little? It's so corse, damaged, and thick.. and it drives me crazy! Plz help! Thanks!
I have really thick hair, how do I make it seem thinner and less damaged?
This information comes from my step mom. She is a liscensed beautician. She told me to do this for my hair as I had the same problem you had.
First of all: Go to a stylist and have them thin your hair out with a thinning shears and do a trim to take off the split ends. Having a layered hair cut will also help.
second: This may sound gross but it does work. Wash your hair with eggs once a week or put mayonaise on your hair and cover with a hot towel for about a half hour after wetting the hair down. The protein from the eggs and in the mayonaise help to strengthen the hair strands.
Third: Use a good deep condition in the shower at least 2 times a week. There are conditioners that you leave on for 5 min and then rinse out. I use sauve shampoo and V05 Mend and Defend conditioner.
fourth: drink plenty of water to keep your body and your hair hydrated. 8- 8oz glasses minimum a day for a healthy body and hair.
Fifth: avoid a lot of sun on your hair when outside. Wear a sunhat if you can or a bandana. These with protect your hair from any kind of wind damage and from u.v ray damage of the sun.
To help keep frizz down I use VO5 anti frizz %26amp; shine leave in conditioner. Leaves hair soft and silky.
I hope this helps you out. Good Luck!!!

Get regular trims to get rid of the damaged hair. You should get some long to medium layers in the back of your hair and some layers around your face. That will help it feel less thick. Make sure you use a really good deep conditioning and protien treatment once a week. You can get great Redken products from the salon or Folica.com.
Good LUCK!

If you're good to your hair, which it sounds like you are, it shouldn't be damaged. Maybe you just have extreamly course hair that seems damaged. Either way it can't hurt to be extra good to your hair. I'd suggest a hot oil treatment once a week. And try Aussie 3 minute miracle repair, put it on your hair wet or dry and then put on a shower cap and leave it on for atleast 15 minutes. Then rinse well. Use a wide tooth comb to brush when wet and don't use heat on it for awhile. Hope this helps, it's what I used to do and it helped (I chemically straightened my hair a couple years ago and fried it).

You might want to try perms but I wouldn't do that until you can get better control of your hair. go to the beautician every once inwhile or for now every two weeks. It's expensive but it's worth it. Also try deep condtitoiners and hot oil treatments. Still get your hair trimmed as often as possible and STOP flat ironing it. Heat is never good. Try to wrap when it's wet and then sit under the dryer. I know i just said that heat is not good but it's better than a flat iron. I would def go to the prof though. You mite also want to cut and start over or cut a few inches just to give it a fresh start. try this it should give you a good start.

Well everybodys hair is differant and some people are more prone to split ends than others. But One thing that can cause split ends is having your hands in your hair all the time. I have that problem cuz sometimes i mess with my hair when im bored. Also brushing your hair to often causes them. Especially if you are brushing roughley, always brush slowly and gentley. If your hair is thick, whenever you go to get your hair trimmed ask your stylist to thin your hair with one of those scissor thingys idk what there called but she/he should know. Only other thing i could tell you to do is find some good shampoo and conditioner set that you like and make the best of it. And remember that everyones hair changes over time. Some people start out with black hair and when they get older its blonde and some people are born with the thickest hair ever and when they get a little older it gets thin (and im not talking about 80 yrs old cuz ik that old ppl have thin hair) It really weird but true. Hope it works out for ya

if you want it to be thinner then next time you go get your hair cut then tell the hair dresser, "please thin my hair" and they will use this tool and they thin your hair out.... IT WORKS GREAT!!
=]] good luck

Ask your hairstylist to do a long layered hairstyle, thinned out with a razor. this will thin out the bulk, making the top of your hair thicker then the bottom. Instead of using scissors, which just makes a straight snip at the tip of the hair, they will run a razor thru your hair top to bottom dpeending on how much bulk they wanna take out, on different layers making the hair feel less heavy!

For one thing, when you get your hair trimmed, you need to have the stylist locate for you exactly how high up the ends are split and have him/her all of that hair off if you want it to be healthier. Even if you leave only a millimeter of the split end it will continue to split. You're doing a good job on cutting back on heat styling and chemical processing. The next thing I would do is deep-condition and hydrate the hair. There are many decent products out there. On the more expensive end, Redken makes some very good products (shampoos/conditioners included) for damaged hair. If you don't want to spend as much, Pantene has some decent deep conditioning treatments, as does Neutrogena. (I specifically like their hair mask that's supposed to hydrate the hair.) Another good natural ingredient for the hair is coconut oil. I have heard that olive oil works for hydrating hair as well. As far as a way to make your hair appear thinner, a good haircut will solve that for you. Layers are the ideal haircut to get if you want to take some of the weight off of the hair and make it appear thinner. I wouldn't recommend having the hair thinned though. Layering would thin the hair, but leave a bit of it's natural volume. (which girls with thinner hair crave.) Hope that helps!
